Today's Thought

" Art is an act of the soul, not the intellect. When we are dealing with people’s dreams—their visions, we are in the realm of the sacred. We are involved with forces and energies larger than our own. We invoke the Great Creator when we invoke our own creativity, and that creative force has the power to alter lives, fulfill destinies, and answer our dreams.”

Shortcut To Success
By Paula Pritchard

I was teaching at Kent State University when I first got started in network marketing. Part of the challenge for me was that I kept trying to reinvent how to do the business. I kept trying to adapt my prior knowledge to this business instead of just cleaning off the slate and going about the business with a totally open mind. I needed to start over with complete faith and learn from the people who had walked the walk before me.

After I spent the entire first year trying to apply what I thought I knew and reinventing the wheel, I realized that you can't apply anything to network marketing. When people say "I don't have a sales background" I say GREAT because then I know their minds are more open to learning and we don't have to spend so much time unlearning bad habits. I found out that you have to learn from the people who are where you want to be. Some people call it "modeling" the person you want to be like. Make sure it's someone who really IS successful. Not just a talker.

So, I followed the person who was where I wanted to be. I would tape every conversation we had and his answer to every question I would ask. There were times I remembered sticking my arm, with the tape recorder in hand, into a crowd that was surrounding a superstar just so I could retrieve a morsel of information. Sometimes it was only a conversation about what they had to eat for dinner or the weather or even travel plans to the next conference. There were many times I transcribed a tape with only trivial information on it. But I'm a big believer that one line, even one sentence can change your life. It can change the direction of your business. So I would transcribe every tape and try to absorb the information on the tape. Many times I discovered that tiny morsel. Sometimes the information was over my head but I knew I would have it available to read or listen to later when hopefully it would make more sense. I definitely became a good student.

For some people it is hard to let go and have blind faith that you can be successful at network marketing. In the beginning that is exactly what you have to do. The only success you have at the start is the success of those people who have preceded you. You have got to have faith that what they have done is what they are teaching you to do and that duplicating those actions will bring you the same success. I was so committed to modeling that I would wear similar clothes, adopt a similar posture, read every book and listen to every tape they prescribed.

One of the most important keys to success in this business is understanding the duplication process. The key to my success was duplicating myself, helping other people to do what I do. The only way I could teach true duplication was to be consistent in everything I did, making sure I did it the same way every time so that people could copy it. I believe in setting a good example. I would never tell people to do something I hadn't personally done.

In order to be consistent, I would do the opportunity presentation the exact same way every time, just so people could learn it, even if by osmosis. That was the best way to create leaders and get them doing the presentation themselves right away. My goal was to take the focus away from me. It kept me from being the issue, which is very important. Success is the ability to transfer the information properly to others and empowering them. My philosophy is that if you help enough people become successful, you won't have to worry about your own success. I know that it is a cliche' but it really is my focus. I make my goal their success and in the process I don't have to worry about mine. I have been very fortunate to have helped a lot of people. Some have gone on to be at the top in the industry and some have gone on to own their own network marketing or conventional business.

Commit yourself to designing a duplicatible system that people can learn and teach. Then commit yourself to following the system to perfection so people can learn it by following you. Remember, success is not how many times you are recognized but how many times your people are recognized.

Natural Prospecting
by Todd Falcone

"No matter how hard I try, I just can’t seem to sponsoranyone!" exclaims Joe, the frustrated network marketer.

This is a sentiment I hear all too often in this business.Obviously, there could be many reasons why this might be the case, but let’slook at one simple (and very common) cause: the mind.

Prospecting truly is something that can comenaturally, and should. Most people make it out to be far more difficult than it really is.

After all, it’s just a conversation, a connection with another person, isn’t it? Inevitably, though, many people falter in their prospectingefforts because they get in their own way. Their minds play tricks onthem—sabotaging head-games that lead to low or no results. If you are going toearn any real money in network marketing, you have to get the prospecting gamedown, and not let the prospecting game get you down.

What this takes is natural prospecting.
Natural prospecting means getting into a zone that anyone and everyone can achieve if they simply step aside and get out of their own way.

Too often, people over-think and worry about what they aregoing to say, rather than simply flowing in the conversation. What’s required is to simply let what happens happen. I’m not saying that you should get lazy about your words or your approach—not at all. I simply mean that you need to be natural—“in the moment.”

Wherever you are, be there, not somewhere else in your head.

Can You Book a Flight?
At some point in your life, you have probably booked a flight over the telephone. Did you use a script? Of course not! Why not? You didn’t need to. You knew your objective, and it was simple. What time are the flights? How many stops? Is there food on the plane? A movie? It was a simple, stress-free call where you didn’t get in your own way. Your mind didn’t play tricks on you.

Because you knew exactlty what you wanted.
You don’t always have to know the answer to every question a prospect asks you. Why not? Because there’s not always one “right” answer orone “right” solution, just as there’s not always one “right” direction to go on a call. You have choices. Exercise them.

When a network marketer gets jammed up in a conversation, his words jumbled and brain fumbling around, feeling like a three-year old, it’s because he is thinking too much. “What should I say? What do I do?Where do I go from here? What did he mean when he said this, that or the other?” Confusion takes place and another opportunity is lost.

It’s important to understand that a free-flowing conversation is exactly that: flowing. Not planned, not forced into a pattern, not fixed. It can flow in any direction, without force and or stress.

One Chance for a First Impression
You really only have one opportunity to make a great impressionon a prospect. People want to work with confident leaders who are in control
.(At least the right people do!)

Next time you pick up the telephone to call a prospect, takea deep breath and relax. There’s nothing to stress out about. No worries. It’sjust a conversation with another living, breathing human being who probably has some level of dissatisfaction in her life or desire for change. All you need todo is uncover it and show her a possible solution.

It sounds easy, doesn’t it? Here’s why: it is. Don’t blow that first impression by letting paranoia and fear prevent you from letting go.Let it happen. You’ll be sure to make a better impression when you are working with relaxed intensity rather than stressed intensity.

What’s Your Objective?
A prospecting call becomes far easier when you clearlyunderstand the purpose of the call. If you go into a call confused, not clearly understanding your purpose, your mind will tend to race and cause you to flail about.

When I make calls, I clearly know my objective. It’s justlike buying an airline ticket: I know exactly what I want. I pick up the telephone and engage the person in conversation by asking a question.

I am looking for someone open to an opportunity for change

I then probe and look for desires, dissatisfactions and strong character traits. If they fit the bill, I present my opportunity, answer any legitimate questions and collect a decision. Voila! The call is done. It’s really that simple.
Get clear on what you want to accomplish in your prospecting calls. Don’t worry about getting stuck not knowing what to say if and when they say something. You’re already in a losing proposition when you do that.

If a question or objection comes up that you are notprepared for, take a breath, pause, then go with the flow. Don’t try to answer something that you don’t know. Don’t talk out of fear.

Every day, unexpected things occur—and we deal with it. Prospecting is no different. Let it come naturally and without force. Think about flow and let it go.

Go in Peace!
Earlier, I used the term “relaxed intensity.” Abundance, success and fulfillment come when you take an approach to building your business characterized by relaxed intensity: going all out in your business, giving it everything you’ve got—yet doing so with a peaceful mind.

Success comes to those who work toward it—not those who stress about it.

Let your mind work on other creative projects rather thanwhat might happen in a conversation. Do this, and you will find yourself attracting and sponsoring more people thanyou ever dreamed possible!

"Who Are You Serving?"

Bob Dylan sung about it; the late Earl Nightingale talked about it; and best selling author Rick Warren wrote about it: We're all here on this earth to serve.

Do you remember the recent news story about the young lady who was trapped in her Atlanta apartment with a suspected killer of a judge and several other people in Atlanta?

It was an amazing story about Ashley Smith and the alleged killer, Brian Nichols and how Smith persuaded Nichols into letting her go unharmed. How did she do it?

She was able to talk Nichols into releasing her because she convinced him that even though he considered himself "a dead man", he could perform a "miracle" by going to prison and "sharing the word of God" with other inmates.

She was coaching the suspected killer with the help of Rick Warren's inspirational book, "The Purpose-Driven Life" (Zondervan Books). The book's message is that you and I are here on this earth to serve other people.

Isn't that a wonderful message?

When I read the Ashley Smith story I was struck by the power of coaching ... using the message of being of service to others.

Oftentimes in network marketing we forget that we attract more (and better) customers and leaders by being of service, rather than by selling an opportunity.

Is it possible that by thinking of the money when presenting our products and the business opportunity, we have conveyed the wrong message?

Perhaps Ashley Smith's inspirational story will compel all of us to think of ways we can serve others better, and not put so much emphasis on the money and freedom.

It would be the ultimate presentation because it would cause us to focus more on where we should be focusing -- on the other person instead of ourselves.

Until next time,

REALITY FORMS AROUND YOUR COMMITMENTS

The intense anticipation of things to comewill transform your possibilities into reality.Your desires are the precursors of the things that you can have. They will in time externalize themselves into concrete fact.

Just as a small amount of fire makes a small amount of heat, weak desires bring weak results.Live your life with fire and passion.Always remember, if you care enough for the end result, you'll almost certainly attain it.

You can make your world.
